Mac Attack Volunteers – volunteers needed to make a mark on the wrist band that each child wears as they pass you as they run around the track. Then, after the race, many hands will make light work as we work together to add up all the tally marks on the wrist bands, put those tallies on the children’s MAC attack forms and hand out popsicles Sign up to help at  http://signup.com/go/SDoWtP or email Kari at karijkey@gmail.com

IRCO Donation Drive Thank You! - Thanks to all who contributed to the donation drive for refugee families and IRCO.  We estimated that we collected over $300 worth of personal care items and donated at least 4-5 fully intact personal care kits and 10-15 kits that were almost complete.  This donation drive was spearheaded by approximately 24 middle schoolers who took part in a Community Service elective for 4 weeks.  Thank you to all the middle schoolers who opted for this elective instead of many of the other really cool offerings!  Your work has really made a difference for many refugee families.  IRCO was very impressed by the amount of donations!! Kristin Doherty & Beth Nelson

Lost and Found Clean Out – It is time again to check the Lost and Found for any items your family may be missing.  We will remove all items from Lost and Found after April 14, 2017.

Needed: Empty Paper Towel Rolls – The first grade class is in need of empty paper towel rolls for an upcoming project.  These can be brought to the office, or Room 10.

PPS School Calendar Updates – The PPS board approved on Tuesday the addition of 2 school days due to the inclement weather we had back in January.  The 2 days added are Friday, April 7th and Thursday, June 15th.  The April 7th date was previously a teacher planning day without students.  It will now be a regular school day.  In addition, due to this change, there will not be a report card coming at the end of quarter 3.  There will be a middle school progress report for those students who might be in danger of failing a class.  At the elementary level, there will not be a progress report or report card.  The final report card will come at the end of quarter 4 (the end of the school year).  The last day of school is now Thursday, June 15th.  This means that the 8th grade promotion will be moved once again, with it now being on Wednesday, June 14th from 6 pm to 7 pm.  Our Winterhaven School Picnic will also be on Wednesday, June 14th.

Kids Like Languages - Sign up now for after school Mandarin, French or Spanish language classes. The classes will be on Mondays, and will run from 4/3 to 6/5 from 3:05-3:55pm. Students will learn Mandarin, French or Spanish through fun and engaging activities.  Children learn best when they actively participate in the classroom. Our lessons are filled with art, music, games, gestures and everyday situations to promote fluency and cultural awareness. Your child will have the opportunity to use their language skills to prepare them for future interactions in the real world.  Registration and more information:  http://www.kidslikelanguages.com/collections/portland-public-school-district/products/mandarin-or-french-after-school-program-at-winterhaven.

It's open to students in grades 4-12, with a registration fee of $35.00. Please e-mail Ms. Tran (atran@pps.net) by Friday, March 10, if your child would like to attend. Thank you!
