Spring Elementary Music Concert - Please mark your calendars for our Spring Elementary Music Concert. Our students are working hard and looking forward to a presentation of songs from a variety of countries. GRADES 3, 4, and 5 Wednesday, May 24th 6:30 pm in the Auditorium


PPS Bond Proposal – PPS has proposed a $790 million capital construction bond on the May 16, 2017 ballot. If approved, the bond would fund renovations and additions at Benson High School and Madison High School and full rebuilds of Lincoln High School and Kellogg Middle School. Additionally, if the bond passes, at least $150 million would fund district-wide health and safety projects, including: replacing old pipes and fixtures to reduce lead; removing or encapsulating exposed lead paint and asbestos; and upgrading fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems. The average levy rate for the proposed bond is estimated to be $0.68 per $1,000 of assessed value over 30 years. The levy rate is estimated to be $1.40 per $1,000 for the first four years, declining thereafter. If the proposed bond doesn’t pass, PPS will continue to respond to health and safety emergencies and take steps to make sure schools remain safe. But, PPS currently does not have funding available to embark on significant long-term mitigation of these hazards. Ballots go out to registered voters in late April and are due on May 16.


PTSA Assistance for the ballot measure - Parent volunteers will be outside the school for unofficial ballot pick-up on Friday at drop-off and pick-up, and Monday at drop-off. They will be happy to take your completed, signed and sealed ballots to an official Multnomah County Elections drop site. Please remember to vote, for our kids’ sake. Ballots are due Tuesday.


Winterhaven Carnival – The 7th Annual Winterhaven Carnival is coming up soon! Save the date for Friday, May 19th from 5 pm to 8 pm here at Winterhaven. For those that are new to the school, this is our biggest community event of the year and it coincides with our Wealth of Winterhaven School Auction and the Annual Art Show. It is a good time for the whole family that is (mostly) free! For no cost, we will have a bouncy house for all ages, an inflatable slide for kids up to 4th grade and an inflatable obstacle course for kids in grades 5 and up. Also free are various carnival games, performances by a juggling clown on a unicycle, balloon animals, face painting, popcorn and snow cones. In addition, for a small fee, there is a “dunk” tank for teachers (this is a fundraiser run by the 5th grade class to benefit the school garden), a cupcake walk, and pizza, salad and soda for sale. Also, the Annual Art Show will be going on in the gym organized by our own amazing art teacher Sharon Hatrack. Make sure you go in and check out all the cool and creative work our kids have been doing this year! Please put the date on your calendars! Wealth of Winterhaven School Auction – Friday, May 19, 2017 during the School Carnival. Do you have a good or service you would be willing to donate? Do you work for a company that would be willing to donate something? Have a friend who owns a business?  Vacation home you'd be willing to offer? A party for a group in your house/vacation house/boat? Products or a gift certificate from your (or a neighborhood) business? (note: most businesses in Sellwood/Westmoreland have been approached)  We’re hoping to have items gathered by May 14th. Restaurants for Raphael House – The Raphael House’s annual dine-out fundraiser is coming up in just two weeks. The big day is Wednesday, May 17th and 49 restaurants around Portland, Lake Oswego, and Beaverton are donating a portion of their day’s proceeds. Year End Cafeteria Account Balances - Student meal accounts with positive or negative balances will carry over into next school year.

  • Families can pay off negative account balances by cash or check in the cafeteria, or online at by June 15, 2017.
  • Families with positive account balances have the following options:

- Do nothing -- leave the funds in the account to pay for future school meals
- Request the balance be transferred to a sibling meal account
- Request a refund via the Cafeteria Lead (check will be sent within 4-6 weeks)
- Request the funds be donated to help cover money owed on other student meal accounts
